Have an innovative idea, but do not know where to pitch and validate it? Why not pitch your idea at the Appleseed Demo day?
While Singapore was having its Fintech Festival on the week of 14th – 18th Nov, other parts of the startup community did not relax and breathe slow. On 17th November 2016, Appleseed has also organised a Demo Day for entrepreneurs at JTC Launchpad to pitch their ideas.
The aim of this Demo Day was to allow entrepreneurs to validate their ideas, have the opportunity to network with potential investors and industry experts. There were six teams who participated in the Demo Day, each with a unique and interesting idea. Here are the some of the highlights:
The night was kick-started by Web.Host, an online payment website which allows users to make cross-border transfers at a lower fee structure than existing players, such as banks. The CEO of Web.Host aims to disrupt the traditional way of transferring money oversea as he feels that the process should be fast and simple.
Next, Gachvang, the one and only property valuation website in Vietnam. Before Gachvang, the lack of proper valuation tools and websites posed a problem in the property market. For instance, Property prices can vary by more than 30% across property agencies. With Gachvang, the uncertainty of property prices is reduced as clients can check out the property prices in their desired vicinity.
Lastly, the night was wrapped up by Whizpace, a social enterprise that aims to provide affordable internet connection in the remote area of the world. Despite the ubiquitous of the Internet, there are still 3 billion people who do not have internet connectivity.
These remote areas have no telecommunication infrastructure available as the cost of infrastructure development has discouraged telcos from extending their services.
However, with the invention of Whizpace, telcos can now extend their connectivity to a wider range without building additional infrastructure. With the unique idea, Whizpace managed to claim the top prize of the night.
The next Demo Day will be held in February 2017. Do check out Appleseed for updates if you are interested in joining!
