Joseph Schooling is Singapore’s golden boy. Those 50.39s of glory at Rio 2016 were no doubt a result of endless training, a lot of sweat, and as we all know now, a lot of money!
Not all athletes are fortunate enough to win Olympic gold, and even for Joseph, a blue-chip prospect since his youth, the financial burden shouldered by his family to fund his training always loomed in the background.
Even with little financial assistance, athletes yearn for the privilege of representing their nation at the Olympic Games, as did Schooling, who moved to the United States for extensive training at the tender age of 14.
